Library Cards

1. How do I get a Library card?

Residents of Medfield can obtain a library card by presenting a current driver's license with a Medfield address. If you do not have a driver's license and wish to obtain a library card, please call 508.359.4544 for further information.
2. Can children get a library card?
Children 5 years old and above may obtain a library card with a parent's or caregiver's signature. Parents are responsible for materials borrowed by children 18 years or younger.
3. Where can I use my library card?
Your library card can be used at any of the Minuteman Library Network (MLN) libraries listed below:

4. What happens if I lose my card?
If you lose your card, report it immediately. You are responsible for all materials taken out on your card until it is reported lost. The replacement card fee is $1.00.

5. How do I borrow materials?
You must present your library card to borrow materials.

7. May I renew materials?
Books and magazines may be renewed unless they are reserved by another library user. These items may be renewed twice, except for items from another library which may only be renewed once. Overdue materials may be renewed at the circulation desk when the fine is paid.

Books-on-tape and compact disks may be renewed once.

You may renew either:

  • in person,
  • by phone,
  • on the online catalog by using your PIN number (you may obtain a PIN number at the circulation desk).

Returning Materials and Fines

8. Where do I return materials?
You may return materials, including materials from other Minuteman libraries at the circulation desk or the book drops at the entrance and back of the library.
9. What are the late charges?
Items returned late have the following fines:
  • Books, 5¢ per day per item, to a maximum of $4.00 per item,
  • CD's, 5¢ per day per item, to a maximum of $4.00 per item,
  • Magazines, 5¢ per day per item, to a maximum of $2.00 per item,
  • DVD's, $1.00 per day per item, to a maximum of $5.00 per item,
  • Videos, $1.00 per day per item, to a maximum of $5.00 per item,
  • CD-ROM's $1.00 per day per item, to a maximum of $5.00 per item.

Senior Citizens are exempt from library late charges.

10. Will I be charge for lost or damaged items?
There will be a fee for any item returned damaged based on the extent of the damage. Severely damaged and lost items will be charged current replacement value.

Reserving Books

11. May I reserve materials?
Items that can be place on the reserve list include books, magazines, non-fiction videos, books-on-tape, compact discs, and CD-ROMS.

Other Libraries and the Minuteman Library Network Computer System

12. May I borrow books from other libraries or online?
You may borrow materials from other libraries in the Minuteman Library Network by filling out an Interlibrary Loan request form. Library staff will be happy to assist you. (Click here for a list of MLN Libraries)
13. Can I search the catalog online?
Yes, the Minuteman Library Network Catalog is online at: http://www.mln.lib.ma.us/index2.htm.

You can search the catalog by author, title, subject, or keyword.

14. Can I view my account online?

"My Account" on the MLN website allows you to view a list of items checked out to your library card, and to renew or reserve materials. To access your record, go to the catalog and click "My Account". You will need your library card number (on the back of the card and PIN number, which you can get at the circulation desk)
